The 52L

Man, I'm not sure what's up with AC Transit these days, but their service has gone south after they f'ed up...er I mean udpated the 52L line that takes folks from UC Berkeley to the UC Village and now on to 99 Ranch and El Cerrito BART.

I'm all for better service and for the most part, this route update is a logical one. The problem is that they haven't quite figured out the timing which leaves people stranded at the UC Village each morning during the 8am rush to school.

So this is an open rant to AC Transit:

Between the hours of 7:30 and 9:00AM, there needs to be at least twice as many buses going FROM UC Village TO the University than there are those that go from UC Village to El Cerrito BART. That's it. Pure and simple. Buses should be running to the University at 5-10 minute intervals for that 1.5 hour period since that is when most people are in a big hurry to drop off their kids and preschool and head to school. We're not asking for chauffeurs or anything...just good old reliable bus service (kind of like the OLD 52L line that worked reliably about 95% of the time). Currently, the buses during the 8am hour are generally late at least 2 to 3 times a week (I'm not talking 5 minutes late, but 20-30 minutes at least).

This morning at 8:10am, everyone at Ohlone and Jackson was expecting a bus to take them to the university and not only did not one arrive, but three...count them: 1...2...3...EMPTY BUSES pass by on the way to El Cerrito BART. Who the HELL needs to go the BART station from the UC Village? Maybe one weird guy, but this is the UC Village where people who attend the UC, need to go to the UC (the University...get it?) Not the BART, but the university (UC Village = UC students = go to school at the UC....I know, it's hard to figure out). The customer service provided by the bus drivers was unacceptable too. People were complaining to each bus driver that the bus they need was late and they just said, "Sorry nothing I can do". I wonder if they could have called the dispatch center and see where the hell the 8:10 bus was at 8:30. No, I don't think they could be interrupted from their important empty-bus-driving duties.

Seriously though, I hope the AC Transit people get the message and FIX IT. And I mean soon. Otherwise, you'll have 1000 angry UC Villagers clogging up your call center at all hours of the day complaining about the good old 52L.

I just saw this and am absolutely going to get one (if ever I find myself with way too much money than any normal human should have). First, I'll convert it to full electric drive because, you know, I can. Then I'm going to gold plate it because, you know, if it's hip hop...it's gots to be gold.

Man, yesterday was a tougher than usual morning. I awoke to find one of my rear tires flat ("crap" was my exact expression I believe). I proceed to gently drive the car to the gas station to fill it up with air. There was no seeping noise so I figured, what the heck. By this time, I was already about 30 minutes late and figured I'd better haul some ass to make up some time. The entire time, I kept lowering my side mirror to see how the big band of rubber my life was riding on was doing...seemed ok. When I got to school, it looked alright. Luckily, I was only a couple of minutes late to class. Unluckily, however, we had surprise test. Professor Mosh is actually a very good teacher, but his penchant for totally unannounced tests and quizzes keeps the class on edge.

I did ok on the test, but was a little frazzled afterwards, not to mention zonked from lack of sleep and coffee deprivation. I got the set of tires replaced (considering the others had cracked tread) and am riding on a new set of Yokohama YK520s. They're very grippy which but smooth at the same time. I'm hoping the over-grippy-ness calms down after a few hundred miles. Here's to burning rubber and burning credit.

Hopped up 240

This one brings back memories of the old days. My best bud Tony had a couple of these things (actually, his parents did). These two cars served their family very well for quite some time. Anyway, here's a photo that brings back memories of a dream that Tony and I once had of hopping up his parent's 240s with a Mustang 5.0 motor and racing that darned thing. Cheers buddy.
