I'm a huge fan of the sustainable architecture movement and deplore the mass market suburban landscape that has become so popular with outlying areas. Ever drive through those places and think, "Hey, were are all the local businesses?" Guess what, there aren't any because new "master planned" areas are designed by large home builders in cahoots with big box retailers to maximize profit not livability.
So what can you do? Here are 10 tips to get your started on changing the world, one house at a time: Slow Home Principles : Weblog

I don't know about you but I love this uber solar house that rotates to face the sun and actually produces more energy than it expends. I wonder if this guy takes credit cards?

I am a self-proclaimed light snob. I really am. At home, I rarely use the built-in lights that we have in our ceilings since they are just awful. We've tried replacing the bulbs, but nothing really helps. Anyway, we've resorted to using the energy vortexes known as halogen floor lamps. I know, I know it sucks to use so much juice to satisfy my warm light jones, but it really does make a difference in the time I spend at home. That's why I'm glad to see Popular Mechanics take on the task of testing popular CFL light bulbs to see if they can get similar color to the incandescants and halogens. I'm happy to say that I will be bulb shopping very soon.

I so HATE proprietary charging devices and adore all things USB. I hate disposable batteries even more...what a money sink and landfill-filler. I think I'm going to have to pick up a couple of sets of these things for my bluetooth mouse and helmet lights
Hmmm...maybe a valid xmas gift?
