Man, we've only been up in Albany for two weeks or so but it's already felt like we've been here for a long time. I don't mean that in a bad way...I just mean that Albany/Berkeley is a pleasant place to live with so many (relatively) affordable eateries and a few not so affordable ones which we'll save for special occassions. For those two weeks, I've been commuting via the Capitol Corridor Amtrak train. It's been a good (but a bit too early-morning) experience for me.
The 80 or so minute train ride has afforded me time to finally begin preparation for the GMAT test in earnest. The reason I've been holding off for so long is that during this past year, I was the tech manager for the Silicon Valley Open Studios (ultra-time usurping albeit worthy cause) and during the school year, I'm unofficially "in school." "What do you mean, Tommy?" Well, for the most part, when my wife is in school, I am also in school. I'm now have some basic and even in depth knowledge in art history, philosophy, critical thinking and argumentation, and a host of other topics that I thought I would not ever be privvy to learn. It has been both a blessing (to attain even more knowledge for my brain's seemingly unquenchable thirst) and a curse (really lacking of time except for pockets here and there for my own pursuit of GMAT perfection and B-school research).
Thanks to my super long commute and ipod, I now have the time and isolation that is required to really get to work on preparation for my B-school prep. I've so far completed about 40% of my Kaplan 2006 GMAT Premier Program review book. I figure at this pace, I should be done with the book by August 15th or so. Then I get to work with Kaplan GMAT 800 (aka the hell bringer). I'll also need time for essay writing and recommendation letter procurement, but that shouldn't be an issue.
Here's my first bit of B-school research. I'm considering part-time versus distance programs at the moment. Part-time is edging out the distance programs since it allows me much more face time with my professors and classmates, however limits my choices greatly. Also USC is in there for comparative purposes for the "just in case" scenario where I travel down to LA on the weekends for class.
