Hongyun wanted to watch some debates to see how the movers and shakers of the political world handle debates. You see, in China, there are no political debates. ever. Candidates generally just make a speeches promising the world and going backstage to plan out their new 800 sqft solid marble bathrooms for after they are elected. Hongyun's mom tells us in the past they would just put photos of the guys up for "election" on the ballot and you would pick based on how they look. This explains why her mom feels that President Hu Jin Tao is a good guy since she saw a video bite of him making dumpling with a common person. She said it shows that he's a down to earth kind of guy. Nope...that's not a staged display of handshaking or baby-kissing...yeah right. Anyway:

Hmmm, I guess the elephants have more to talk about...
How much do you spend for TV, movies, and the like? Me personally? Very little. We don't have a cable TV subscription (we get some cable channels free by some freak of university bureaucracy) and pay for Tivo. Outside of that, we get movies from various libraries for free. Once in a while, we head to the movies which is nice. I really hope they get the whole concerts, theater, and other stuff up and running for movie theaters. We'd go a lot more if they did.
Anyway, it's nuts to see that people spend about $1000 on content per year!! We pay about $240 for Tivo and that's that.
If we didn't get have our few cable channels, we'd probably just get a Netflix account since they're only like 20 bucks a month.
Ins and Outs: Is buyshifting the future of television? (part 2) - Engadget
Holy cow...I can't believe they're back! Well, maybe they were never gone, but I've been listening to their tunes from a cd I got over the internet two+ years ago and I have never gotten tired of it. Never. That's how good it is. Yep, that's right, I've listened to their songs at least once a week (usually much much more) for more than two years and haven't gotten tired of them. Now that's good music. Am I going to buy their CD when it comes out? I hope they ship it in good old digital format so I don't have to contemplate the carbon impact of the CD's raw materials, production, delivery and all that jazz. Plain old digital will be just fine thank you very much (hold the DRM). Thanks.
