I've big big fan of open university type courses for a while but generally they've been lacking on thing or the other. For example, MIT's Open University has a lot of the materials, but many lack the lectures (I haven't been back in ages so maybe this has been fixed recently).
When I was an employee at Microsoft, we used to get a bunch of Stanford classes on our campus TV network. Since I worked in TV, I had my TV port activated in my office. When I figured this out, I hooked up a feed to my media center PC with dual tuners and an old VCR we had lying around the office to record things. Lo and behold, I got a lot of great recorded lectures, but no course materials. Now, I see that that Stanford was reading my mind all along and they have released annotated video in a great variety of formats as well as lecture notes, assignments, and just about everything you need for self study. So far it's 6 courses, but they all seem to have all of the requisite materials available. I hope they take this slow and make sure that each course is complete as they add new ones.
