It's funny to read the an editoral in the Mercury News about the whole mortgage mess. The opinion in the article seems to be that the Bush administration is doing too little too late to help out those borrowers who are in over their heads when it comes to their mortgage resetting.
The funny thing is that Bush is allowing those borrowers who can qualify and have enough equity in their home to refinance for a fixed rate mortgage. Hmmm...sounds like what banks should have done all along, right? Yeah, I know. It's always reassuring to know that the good old lying, cheatin', wiretappin', sex-scandalin', war-mongerin' Republicans know a thing or two about making and keeping money. Say what you will about those guys, but I feel pretty good about Bush's move in this one particular case.
The Mercury News, seems to believe as Hillary does that people who signed their names to the most important document of their lives simply did not read the documents beforehand and were therefore victimized and deserve free money to live in McMansions they could not afford in the first place.
After all the crap that Bush has taken, I gotta hand it to the guy for doing the right thing in this case. Bailing out people who deserve foreclosue and bankruptcy would be absolutely stupid. I say let the chips and house prices fall (as they seem to finally be doing).
Maybe I'll actually be able to buy a property or two in cash in a couple of years. Sweet!
