Yesterday I was 0 for 2 in the sunglasses category. I had recently lost my snazzy somewhat new (a year or so old) sunglasses. I was using my really old set as a backup and lost those yesterday as well. So I was using Hongyun's glasses to drive today. On a hunch, I called over to Maru Ichi to see if I left them there yesterday whilst I enjoyed my nice bowl of Kuro Ramen. Lo and behold, the good folk over there had them! I told them I'd head over to pick them up after lunch.
For lunch I went over to the ranch (aka Microsoft SVC) and picked up a couple of friends for a trip over to A&J in Cupertino. When I got to the ranch, one friend opened the car and found my other pair of lost glasses wedged between the passenger seat and door. Nice!
So what's the epiphany? Well, Hongyun and I were discussing (arguing really) the other night using our cash savings for a study abroad thing this summer. I didn't think it was a good idea to burn what little cash we had saved up to now on this trip. I mean it's not an ungodly sum or anything, but it's up there with what our wedding cost. I thought it'd be a better idea to save up for the house and for masters degrees. Her point was that we don't have kids yet, so this may be a good time to do this. I thought about it and think that is a very valid point, however the cash outlay still bugged me. The sunglasses made me realize that things are pretty random no matter how hard you try to plan so the best you can do is have a good time, don't go overboard, and keep on truckin'. Seriously, though, I figured if the day before we were down to 1 pair of sunglasses and today we have all 3 sets in tow, how bad can burning your life savings on a Eurotrip party extravaganza be?
