What a long ass day (yesterday). I came into work expecting three nce fresh installs of Vista Beta 2, but found that the imaging software had stopped. When I investigated further it looked like one of the drives failed. Also one of the machines, a funky test build was installed. So I had to start all over again. Luckily, Ferdinand, one of our IT guys was able to help me put the pieces back together in the course of a few hours.
Then, when I plugged in everything, one of my external drives did not come back up....uh oh. I found this thing called Stellar Phoenix which recovered the files, but man what a scare! This is the 2nd maxtor drive to die on me in a year and it's safe to say I'm done with them.
Also I found a nice back up plan at streamload. Unlimited storage for 5 bucks a month. They limit you to 2GB download, but hey that's fine with me. If I do need to recover anything I doubt I'll need more than 2GB per month. This will be in addition to my Flickr account as well. Basically, I'll have four backups of just about eveything important - 2 DVD backups, flickr pro account (photos only), and streamload. I'm thinking getting or building a local RAID array for backups as well seeing as how large drives are cheap now. Perhaps when the cash flow improves...
