Whole Slew of Atlas :: home :: Rain rain go away
So we've been planning a trip to Yosemite and I've found tons of enourmously awesome Yosemite info. Here's my collection of some of them:
Want to know how much water if flowing around Yosemite? Why would you care? Waterfalls, of course! If you know how much water is flowing, you'll know if the waterfalls will be like a giant firehose or a miniscule spigot. The US Geological Service helps us out in this regard with their water level charts.
I figured there may be a blog from a person in the Yosemite area and lo and behold there is one. Yosemite Blog has lots of photos and great info for your trip to Yosemite. The owner of this blog keeps it up to date with storm warnings and other up to the miniute info.
We have a reservation at the Yosemite View Lodge out on highway 140 near the west gate. This place is nothing fancy or special, but it is quite close to the gate and we've had good luck their before. We're thinking it'll be ok again.
That is until ...
...I found Yosemite Scenic Wonders. They seem to have great cabins and condos to stay in for about the same price I was going to pay at the Yosemite View Lodge. The only problem I have with them is that while their site seems professional enough, their online booking really isn't online...just a form that you have to wait to hear back from someone (there is no way to check real-time availability). What really sucks is the form does not let you choose the specific property you want (eventhough they're all different prices). You just get to pick a class of place you'd like to stay in..not the actual one. I'm still going to give them a chance since their prices are reasonable and their places look quite nice.
Of course, weather is a concern so you should always have the Weather.com 10-day forecast for Yosemite. Thus far it looks like it's going to be quite chilly there...better pack the thermal-lined jeans.
And yeah, don't forget the camera...you're not going to take any old camera with you to one of the most beautiful places on earth are you? Of course not. You're going to check out the nature photography guide and make sure you grab yourself a decent digital SLR. I have my Canon Digital Rebel XT Kit so I'm good to go...although I could use a nice new Canon Image Stabilization Lens
, but maybe next time.
Know of any other good Yosemite resources? If so, let me know and I'll add them to the list!
