Books Inc.

This is really a tale of two (well maybe three) bookstores. The first is the megaopolis of bookstores, Borders. They usually have quite the collection of everything and offer students hot sugary caffiene-infused goodness. But, do you really buy books there? Rarely. I usually use their pretty up -to date programming book collection as references for my projects.

The second store is right on Castro in Mountain View. I'm not sure of the name, but it's the one with the 1/2 price calendar carts out front. This is the packrat's bookstore. They have so many books the they ALL have to be racked with their spine (as opposed to their covers) exposed. Their collection of old calendars is second to none and Hongyun has about half of them already (she uses them for reference in her paintings).

The third and final store (where I am sitting right now typing this) is Books Inc., also in Mountain View. This is a relatively small store, but it's different. I like the feeling of this store. I know it's weird, but this place is more than a store. It seems to turn my interests towards new things (or loved-but-forgotten things). After walking around and looking at the books, I realized they aren't really collections of knowledge so much as representations of our aspirations. These books represent my love for architecture and design as well as my curiosity in a host of many other topics. The books represent what each of us want to be and where we think our first steps may lie.

Anyway, that's my thought for the moment. Enjoy.
