You've heard of Vista, but what is it? Bascially, it's the next generation of Windows OS that Microsoft is workin on. At the Professional Developoers Conference (that's PDC to those who are geek), Billg and folks have shown some really really cool stuff regarding windows Vista and Office 12. They've also introduce a few new apps like Microsoft Max and Microsoft Expression Suite.
Microsoft Max is a little app that was created to showcase some of the new Vista effects and power of the user interface. It's basically a photo sharing app, but you've never seen anything like it on a PC or even a Mac, dare I say. It's definitely worth checking out (especially since it's free).
Microsoft Expression Suite started with "Codename Acrylic" and will grow into two other apps that are destined to help you design apps for Windows Vista and the Web very quickly and easily. So far the tools have Microsoft's trademark user friendliness in mind, but look like there is a lot of power to unlock.
The BillG keynote also talks about some really cool stuff. I gotta hand it to Steve Jobs though...he's the master at getting people riled up about new technologies. BillG just isn't as much of a salesman as Jobs is. I think part of the issue is that he has a LOT of areas of focus. Steve Jobs usually has one or two new things to show the Apple throngs. When BillG talks, he goes on about the myriad of things Microsoft is doing at any one time. I think he mentioned about 8000 different areas of focus for the company in the first 30 minutes of the webcast alone. But seriously, if you want to skip to the nitty gritty, just skip to about the 30 minute mark...that's when you'll see the cool demos of Vista, Office, and other stuff.
