Sadly, hip hop truly is in the mainstream. And I don't mean like the good old days of Easy E and NWA, Ice Cube, and Public Enemy. There's a lot of crap out there right now and I was already so over the hip hop thing in 1999. I have to wonder, has it always been like this and I've simply outgrown it? Or is there really a surge in hip hop the likes of which the world has never seen before? I'm sure the answer is a little of both, but who knows?
I, myself absolutely HATE the radio nowadays. I haven't ventured to sattelite radio because I don't want to pay a monthly fee for a chance that I'll get some decent ear candy for my car rides. I think in the end, I will stick with the blog world of MP3 samplers and pony up for those rare 5 star rated tunes in my iTunes collection.
Now, the hip hop nation thing is getting a little out of hand I think. Peeps this:
Yes, that's right...that's the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference's website. I hang my head in shame as a Microsoftie. How could they stoop so low? I mean even Apple's iPod which is a pop culture icon of a music thingy doesn't stoop to using the words "shizzle" or "bling." Ever. Never. The next thing we'll see is BillG and SteveB hanging out with Lil' John and drinking some Crunk. I mean c'mon guys...could we not have stooped to using "shizzle"? Do you even know what that means? Anyway, on behalf of my little corner of Microsoft Silicon Valley, I apologize for the shizzle on the PDC site...
