ALLOFMP3. The Best MP3 Downloads. Full Albums. Music, Soundtracks, Singles, Games. AAC,M4A,WMA,MPC,LOSSLESS,FLAC,MP4,OGG.

So I was going through my bloglines subscriptions and saw a post about someone dropping $50 on allofmp3 but he wasn't worried since he got 5GBs(!!) of tunes for that much. To put it in perspective, $50 at iTunes would have gotten you 50 songs (~150-200MB). I had to try it.

First of all, it's a Russian site that has an English version that has sort-of correct English. Hey cheap songs, I didn't mind. I started doing searches and they didn't have everything, but most everything that I find interesting was there. I ponied up 5 bucks to get 500MB worth of traffic and started choosing songs.

iTunes still has the best UI, so guess what? I use iTunes to find music and then search allofmp3 to see if they have it. Sarah Mclachlan, great! Dannii Minogue (Kylie's sister?), who cares? It's only 80 cents for the whole album! All in all I used up my 5 bucks over the past couple of days and have a few new albums to show for it. There are a couple of quirks however...you have to click to download each song individually (no iTunes auto-download after you pay for it)..again 5 cents per song = I don't care. Also, the songs are encoded on the fly so you may have to wait a minute or two before you can download the songs, again not a problem for me. I setup a nice little system to do grab the tunes...I click download on four songs and I have them open up into iTunes automagically where they will be copied to the iTunes Music folder and added to my iTunes catalog without my intervention. Saahweet. A neat "feature" is that all of the songs have the genre set to "Other". You may say, "Well that sucks"...and at first I did as well. But I realized that this actually helps me get to the new songs in iTunes (I just choose genre=other and boom!)....XXL saawheet.

According to allofmp3, they are legit, but who knows? All I know is that I got high quality songs on the cheap. If they are really legit and get their catalog up to iTunes' numbers then they may have a shot of dethroning the king. If their prices remain this low, then I will remain a loyal allofmp3 customer until the police cart off their servers...at these prices, I can afford to experiment and try new albums (I downloaded the new Bjork album and it was so so, but interesting...nevertheless it was only 80 cents or something).

Power to the ruskies for their grammatically-challenged allofmp3.com
