I don't know if it's a scam, but Wired has a report that shows people actually getting free iPods!
I signed up for AOL free for 50 days. After you signup, you keep the trial going for one week then cancel...then you're eligible, get 5 of your friends to sign up and you're iPod will be shipped. I know, I know...sounds scammish, but hey couldn't hurt to try it and see. If I get, then cool...if not, then at least I get to checkout AOL for BB for a few days and see if they're up to snuff versus MSN.
UPDATE: AOL definitely pales in comparison to MSN. Here are the reasons why: The UI is clunky and unresponsive. It's quite messy with weird windows that can't be resized. The keyword thing is nice, but that's about the only thing I like. I'll play with it some more, but I'm definitely going to cancel. Here's how to CANCEL YOUR AOL:
