* Sparrow Home Again *
comments

Today, we brought the Sparrow home from Hollister. This morning, Tony and I drove down to Corbin and found a yellow Merlin Roadster being worked on. Apparently it belonged to the boss himself. We actually met the boss and he made sure that the Sparrow was in good shape. I drove it around the lot a little bit and it seemed to be much healthier. The door was much better too...it closed much easier and the inner door handle which was almost impossible when we got it was fixed.

So we called AAA for the tow. Someone from AAA called me back and said that since it was a 3-wheeled car that they could not tow it. The lady on the phone was super rude and said that I should "go commercial" meaning fork out cash for a tow and take my claim to the AAA district office in LA and get the money back. I told her that we towed this car in this region only two weeks ago. She wouldn't even check her computer to see that this was true. She just kept repeating the same thing about "going commercial" and trying to get reimbursed. After a few minutes I got tired of talking to her and called back to talk to someone else. This time, the person on the other side of the phone actually checked her computer to see that we did actually tow it (she tried to give me the same bullshit but I insisted that she check the computer). She said they didn't have the equipment in to tow the car. I told her it just requires a standard flatbed. After a while she finally put me on hold and called the tow company. After about 10 minutes on hold, she comes back all cheery and verifies my location and stuff and tells me that the tow truck will be there in less than 45 minutes. Phew....dumbass AAA, they need to get their act together and stop treating their customers like crap. Especially their Plus members.

So we decided to try out the Wizard Cafe that's in the Corbin factory. The food was servicable and as we finished our meal, the tow truck showed up. The guy was quite helpful and very nice...Eddie from Tiffany Towing in Hollister. Eddie followed us home and everything went well....until we got here. As Eddie was unloading the Sparrow, one of the nylon straps holding the Sparrow down got lodged between the wheel and the brake. We fought with it for about 20 minutes and then Eddie strapped the car back in and used the winch to "pull" the trapped strap out. I parked the Sparrow and plugged her in at about 2:30pm

After I got home from work at about 6:30pm, I checked the Sparrow and it was finished charging. Ahhhh....finally, a solid green light on the charger. Before, the charger would flash red, yellow, and then green...never solid...just flashing all of the time. I felt like the Sparrow was ready for a test drive. So after dinner I came downstairs, unplugged the Sparrow and off I went. I drove around for about a mile or two to make sure it was ok. Then I figured lets try and drive the Sparrow to Ginger's school to make sure it could make it. Along the way I could try out the Sparrow on an expressway! So I did just that...I turned down Lawrence and got the Sparrow up to 55! Wow! It felt like I was flying because I was so low to the ground, but I felt in control the whole time. I loved it!

There are still a few little quirks though. The heater and defrost worked fine. The wipers were ok too. The radio was still cutting out whenever I braked or rolled the windows up or down or even when I turned on the turn signals! Sigh...I plan to add another battery & separate charger along with some new speakers and a head unit that can play mp3s. I think that's going to be my first upgrade to the Sparrow!
