This article discusses many issues related to the very nature of what we think of as "intelligence." What is intelligence? People have always said, "Oooh you're so smart" and crap like that to me. Then I ask them why they think so. Most will say something like, "because you know so much about a lot of different things." I usually respond with an explanation of how a set of encyclopedia contain way more information than I do so it must be considered super smart.

Most people just don't get the notion of intelligence I think. Being able to recall stuff I've learned or seen is probably a result of eating too many carrots or salmon whichever theory you believe. For me though, intelligence is the ability to imagine and successfully execute whatever your mind can create. Application of information is pretty intelligent. The root of intelligence is creation of information. Those who figure out the raw theories that are used to create the things we use, the things we see...these select few are the truly intelligent.

Jim Pinto understands where I'm coming from on this. His discourse is about how the Internet can turn any schmoe into a minor expert in almost any field is quite interesting.
