Ginger and I were talking last night about the conflict she's having about wanting to post the information she has obtained since arriving in America. What kind of information? Lots of things...the truth about 1989 (a protest movement that turned bloody in the capital of the most populous country in the world), the truth about certain religious groups that the previously mentioned country bans in fear that they may try to become a political power, etc. She's even worried about saying that America is better because of the freedoms we enjoy, the respect we give to each other, the values that we hold dear. Why? I mean America has freedom of speech right? True, but the audience she wants to address does not live in America and possessing such knowledge would not only undermine their views about their country, its media, and its government, but could potential jeopardize her family's safety.
Isn't that just horrible? I mean not being able to tell the truth about what you feel because their government is a big bully and is afraid people will start getting ideas. If I have time, I want to join the peek-a-booty cause and help them develop or test their software. I can't believe over a billion people on earth live in relative fear...not fear of their government or fear of their military, but fear of their own thoughts. They fear even learning the truth as it may bring them and their families into danger. Hopefully, some day that will change....
